Jay Parekh's remote working experience from a mountain lodge

Jay Parekh's remote working experience from a mountain lodge.

In the Notchup community we have over 12K skilled developers, engineers and other profiles in the tech industry. But who are the people working within Notchup itself? I like to get to know some of my collegues a bit more and what better than to start by welcoming someone that is fairly new to the club.  Today I am talking to Jay about working from a mountain lodge, how work from home also benefits the employer and why Mahuva is considered the Kashmir of Saurashtra.

When I tune into our call, I see the biggest smile I have seen in a long time - What a happy chap!

“How are you today Johanna? Where are you right now?” Well, I am currently in Greece, but I am super curious to where Jay is as his background image is too nice. “Right now I am taking a bit of workation, and will be staying here in this mountain lodge for a little while."

Jay is currently working in the Notchup Business Development team and is normally based in Mahuva, Gujarat, India and he tells me that his hometown is regarded as the Kashmir of Saurashtra. What does he mean by that I wonder? When I hear Kashmir I either think of war or a soft colourful scarf I wrap myself in when sitting on a cold plain.

Jay and Johanna remote working style

“No no Johanna…..Kashmir is….. heaven on earth… At present people call it heaven because of its geographical beauty but in reality it was called heaven because all bright brains across the world used to come to Kashmir to study at Taxila University founded in 10th Century BCE. However, riots and all that you see inthe news are now very much controlled. I am confident, if you visit Kashmir once, you will fall in love with it and re-visit without any doubt.

Well, Mahuva is known as Kashmir of Saurashtra because of its mild weather and green, lush surroundings, beaches, including many coconut tree plantations.

Jay used to live in Ahmedabad but got tired of the city. With 1.38 billion peoplein India and 8.3 million people in Ahmedabad I can understand that things can get a bit crowded there.

“I hate commutes! That is why I love the set up in Notchup so much where I can work from home or somewhere else and be a lot more flexible with my time. This means that I get to do more of what I like – reading books, dancing and educating myself on new things. It’s all about having a better work-life balance”

He is so happy and excited this guys, so I want to tease him a bit.

“But Jay, don't many people these days use work from home as an excuse to watch Netflix during the day and isn’t work-life balance a better word for “working less”?

I can see his face getting more serious now.

“People believe that work from home arrangements only benefits employees, but I firmly believe that there are as many benefits for employers who introduce this partially or full time for their employees”.

I believe Jay is right, and through his recent posted article on “15 benefits of working from home for employers”  he is stating some good points like higher productivity, lower turnover rates and reduced overhead costs will benefit the employer. And just by talking today with my colleague, I know that he is living proof that Notchup employees are having a better work-life balance which ultimately leads to happier and healthier employees.

“I am very grateful to Notchup, Johanna for giving me this opportunity, and I want more people to be able to see the benefits of remote work as well. That is my passion.”
