How It Works

What makes NotchUp different from a traditional job boards like Monster, CareerBuilder or HotJobs?

Traditional job boards are aimed at people who are unemployed, soon to be unemployed, or unhappy at their current job. NotchUp is for people who are happy at their current job and don't want to spend time searching job listings and applying for jobs.

How does NotchUp work?

You create a profile on NotchUp, then sit back and wait. You only need to come back to NotchUp to update your profile when you get a new job or degree, or learn new skills. Potential employers search NotchUp, and if your profile matches what they're looking for, they pay you to interview.

Why would companies pay me to interview?

By cutting out the middlemen (job boards, independent recruiters), employer save money and decrease their cost per hire. Additionally, having unfilled positions results in lost revenue for companies – for example, every day a company doesn't hire a salesperson is a day that their product isn't getting sold.

The most time consuming part of the recruiting process is sourcing talent – the act of getting qualified professionals to listen. By giving you an incentive to listen, NotchUp drastically speeds up the sourcing process and helps companies avoid the lost revenue that comes from having unfilled positions.

What stops people from lying on their profile, or becoming a ‘professional interviewer'?

On the side of your profile, you'll see a ‘Stats' module and a ‘Feedback' module. Every time you interview, your stats will be adjusted accordingly, and you'll receive feedback from the party that interviewed you. Other potential employers viewing your profile can see your stats and feedback and get a sense for your level of seriousness as a candidate.

Additionally, the NotchUpSafe plan protects companies against fraud - meaning that if an individual lies on their profile, the company can withhold payment. Anyone caught fabricating part or all of their profile will have their account terminated.

Do I have to apply for jobs?

No. NotchUp is not a job board like Monster et al – it's a service aimed at people who are currently employed and busy. You don't have to search through job postings or apply to anything. Companies and independent recruiters will find and contact you.

Will I get offers to interview?

Some combinations of skill, experience and education will receive numerous offers to interview, and others won't. In general, those individuals with good jobs who are in demand by employers tend to receive the most offers to interview.

While we cannot guarantee that you will receive offers to interview on NotchUp, we can give you one hint: the more detailed your profile, the more likely you are to get offers to interview.

How do I set/change/update my asking price, privacy settings, payment information, location, contact information or password?

How do I cancel my account?

If you want to cancel your account, just contact customer support. We're happy to cancel your account, but please be aware we delete all account information, so it is a permanent cancellation.

Interviews

What constitutes an interview?

It varies – whenever you get an offer to interview, the potential employer will tell you what kind of interview they want (i.e. 20 minutes on the phone, 3 hours in their office, 30 minutes at Starbucks). Depending on who is making the offer, the position, and how badly they need to fill it, the interview type will vary.

Am I guaranteed to get my asking price for an interview?

The price you will be paid for an interview is the price you an the potential employer agree upon before you accept their offer to interview - which may or may not be your asking price.

Because not all interviews are the same, we give potential employers the option to be flexible in the amounts they offer you to interview. For instance, if all a potential employer wants is to speak with you on the phone for 15 minutes, they may offer you less money than if they want you to come into their office for 2 hours.

If a potential employer makes you an offer for less money than you'd like, you can counter the offer (i.e. say you'll speak to them, but at a higher price). You are also free to decline any offers you don't find interesting.

What if I'm offered less money for an interview than I'd like?

If you're offered less money than you'd like for an interview, you can counter the offer. To do so, click the “Counter Offer” button on the interview offer page, and then enter the price at which you're willing to accept the interview.

How does a counter offer work?

If you receive an interview offer you're somewhat interested in, but it isn't worth your while at the price the potential employer is suggesting, you can counter the offer. When you counter an offer, you give the potential employer a price at which you'll speak with them. Potential employers have the option to accept or decline your counter offer.

To counter an offer, simply click the “Counter Offer” button on the interview offer page, and then input the price you're seeking.

How long after the interview is over do I get paid?

The money you earned from the interview is placed in your NotchUp account when the interview closes. We'll transfer the money to your PayPal account within 30 days from the date the money appears in your NotchUp account.

Importing your LinkedIn profile

How can I turn my resume into a NotchUp profile?

You can turn your resume into a NotchUp profile in just seconds by using our resume importer. Just upload your resume and we'll parse it into a NotchUp profile. To do this, click on the "Your Profile" tab, and then click on the "Import Your Resume" sub-tab. On the next page, click the "Import Resume" button and follow the instructions.

Can I import my LinkedIn profile into NotchUp?

Yes – you can import your LinkedIn profile into NotchUp in just seconds. To do this, just click on the "Your Profile" tab, and then click the "Import Your Resume" sub-tab. On the next page, click the "Import LinkedIn Profile" button and follow the instructions.

What happens to any information currently in my profile if I import my LinkedIn profile?

When you import a LinkedIn profile, we overwrite the data currently in your profile with whatever you upload – meaning your current profile gets erased.

Your interview price, industry, and privacy data will not be overwritten if you upload a resume.

What if my NotchUp profile doesn't look exactly my LinkedIn profile?

When you import your profile, we parse it and turn it into a NotchUp profile. In the process, parts of the formatting may be slightly altered or lost. If something doesn't look exactly the way you'd like it to, you can make edits to your profile, or try changing your resume and re-importing it.

What if something on my profile isn't imported into my NotchUp profile?

NotchUpShield Privacy

Why would I want to hide my profile from anyone?

Hiding your profile from your current employer blocks them from seeing that you're on NotchUp, and (if you've interviewed via NotchUp) it also prevents them from seeing that you've interviewed other places.

How does NotchUpShield work?

We map every corporate account to the corresponding email domain (i.e. the ACME Widget Company and has email addresses that end in @acmewidgets.com). If a user doesn't want to be found by the ACME Widget company, they enter acmewidgets.com into the NotchUpShield privacy field. Doing this will prevent anyone from ACME Widgets from finding the user or viewing their profile.

What stops my boss from signing up with a Gmail account and finding me?

We screen the companies that create NotchUp Corporate accounts just like we screen professionals that apply. To get a corporate account, a company needs to have a website and a corresponding email domain. This means that corporate accounts can't be created with Gmail, hotmail, AOL or any other personal email accounts.

For instance, someone recruiting for the ACME Widget Company would need to sign up with an email address that has a @acmewidgets.com domain. They cannot change the email domain (the @acmewidgets.com part) without getting approval from us.

If I block a company or independent recruiter, will they know I've blocked them?

No. If you a block a company or independent recruiter, they won't even know you have a NotchUp account to block them with.

Who are independent recruiters and why would I want to block them?

"Independent recruiters" (also known as "headhunters") are recruiters who are not part of the company they are conducting the search for. Independent recruiters may be working for your company, but have a different email domain (i.e. Jane's Recruiting Inc. is recruiting for the ACME Widget Company). Blocking independent recruiters will increase your privacy, but may result in fewer offers to interview, as many companies supplement their recruiting by using independent recruiters.

When I view my NotchUp search profile, I see “Member …” instead of my name. Why?

In order protect your privacy, we hide your name and contact details from prospective employers until you accept an offer to interview with them. What a prospective employer will see instead of your name is your member number.

My Stats and Feedback

Is it just me that sees my stats and feedback, or do potential employers see them too?

Potential employers see your stats and feedback modules. To see what your profile looks like to a potential employer, click on the link at the top of the page titled “View NotchUp Search Profile”.

Can I remove the ‘Stats' or ‘Feedback' module?

No, the stats and feedback module cannot be hidden. Your stats and feedback is what gives potential employers a sense of you as a candidate. As your feedback rating rises, the amount you're offered to interview will likely go up.

Payment

Does NotchUp take any of the money I make interviewing?

No. We make our money by charging companies a fee. You get to keep everything you earn from interviewing via NotchUp.

How much money will I make per interview?

You'll make whatever price you accept the offer to interview at.

Once this happens, the interview is considered closed, and the money is transferred to your NotchUp account. If the prospective employer does not either close the interview within 21 days from the date you accepted the offer to interview, or ask for more time to close the interview, we automatically close the interview for them and add the money to your NotchUp account.

We transfer all the money in your NotchUp account to your PayPal account. Payment occurs within thirty days.

Do you offer other payment methods besides PayPal?
